When the Queen puts down her knife and fork, everyone else has to, too. This is one of the most important rules at Buckingham Palace : it is customary for all those dining at the Queen's table to stop eating as soon as the monarch has finished doing so. This means the other members of the family have to be quite quick when it comes to finishing their food or they have to leave half their plate untouched.
