Estelle Getty went on to star in both of "The Golden Girls" spin-offs, "The Golden Palace" and "Nurses". She also made numerous guest appearances in show like "Fantasy Island", "Cagney & Lacey", "Blossom", "Touched by and Angel" and "The Nanny". Estelle Getty eventually passed away on her 85th birthday on July 22, 2008 from Lewy Body Dementia.
