Capaldi's played the twelfth doctor from 2013 until the end of last year. He is somewhat emotionless, often brusque and always choses the most difficult way of doing something. In 2017's Christmas special we saw him wondering around the South Pole wounded and yet still stubbornly refusing to regenerate. But, regenerate he does, although not before delivering a moving speech.
