In 1914, Chaplin decided to sign with Keystone Studios and was met with huge success following his film debut in "Making A Living". Because he was unsatisfied with the role, Chaplin decided to create a new character for his movies. He borrowed an old pair of shoes from his co-star Ford Sterling, as well as an oversized pair of pants, a top hat, and a undersized jacket. To top it all off, he also got himself a fake mustache.
