Unfortunately, the Marine Corps veteran and actor R. Lee Ermey passed away on April 15th of this year from complications related to pneumonia. He'd served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1961 until 1972 and had risen to the rank of staff sergeant. He was made an honorary gunnery sergeant in 2002. Ermey played some minor roles in the seventies, until he was cast as drill instructor "Gunnery Sergeant Hartman" in Stanley Kubrick's "Full Metal Jacket". Kubrick praised his performance and professionalism on set and Ermey even received a Golden Globe nomination as "Best Supporting Actor". Rest in peace, "Gunny"!
