Tom Hanks nearly died on set while filming "Castaway" (2000). A cut on his leg became infected and it was only thanks to the fact that Hanks went to the nearest hospital quickly that he managed to avoid getting a blood infection. After this worrying escapade, Tom was not allowed to work for three weeks and had to take it easy.
