In the 1993 film "Army of Darkness", "Ash", who is played by Bruce Campbell, is transported back to the Middle Ages through a time portal where he has to fight the dead. He is able to return to the present with the help of a magic potion in the end, however. But, in the original version, "Ash" takes the potion and falls asleep. Instead of waking up in the present, he wakes up in a post apocalyptic world.
