The film "Thelma and Louise" (1991) tells the story of the best friends "Thelma" and "Louise", who go on a completely out-of-control road trip. They end up being involved in several crimes and having to flee the police. At the end of the film, the two women with drive off a cliff in the Grand Canyon as they are surrounded by police. The final scene shows their car falling into the abyss, but it is unclear whether they survive the fall or not. The original ending leaves no room for doubt, however, their car is shown hideously crumpled at the bottom of the cliff.
